South Korea to bolster coast guard
The Korea Coast Guard (KCG) has unveiled a plan to bolster its fleet and improve maritime security in waters surrounding South Korea.
The initiative first released in September will also boost domestic shipbuilding, with a master plan for 30 new vessels. Seoul will spend KRW440.9 billion ($376.8 million) on small and large boats to be built from 2017-20.
Of this figure, seven will be new hulls to increase the size of the KCG fleet, while the others are all replacements for those being decommissioned.
