The Royal Navy’s HMS Duncan has deployed to the Mediterranean to take over as flagship to Standing NATO Maritime Group 2.

The Type 45 destroyer left Portsmouth Naval Base to resume the role after a three-month period in charge in 2017.

The vessel will conduct defence engagement activities alongside the UK's NATO partners and will lead the task group through a series of high-profile exercises.

Standing NATO Maritime Group 2 is a multinational, integrated maritime force made up of vessels from various allied nations that trains and operates together as a single team. The force is permanently available to NATO to perform a wide range of tasks including participating in exercises, crisis response and real world operational missions.

HMS Duncan will return to its home port later in 2018.
