DSA 2016: Pakistan proffers radio technology
Pride of place at the National Radio & Telecommunication Corporation’s (NRTC) booth at DSA 2016 was its software-defined radios (SDR).
The Pakistani corporation, which was founded in 1965, started production of these SDRs in 2011, according to a spokesman, with more than 8,000 units supplied to the nation’s armed forces so far. The range includes vehicular, manpack and handheld versions.
The state-owned corporation stated the SDR ‘ensures clear or encrypted voice and data communication in VHF and UHF frequency bands (30-512MHz) as well as full automatic integration with tactical and strategic networks to provide ‘cellular phone’ services to tactical users’.
