Belgium reviews soldier modernisation amid radio issues

The Belgian Ministry of Defence (MoD) is to review its BEST future soldier concept due to concerns regarding radio reliability, a senior service official has disclosed.

Addressing delegates at the Mobile Deployable Communications conference in Warsaw, Poland on 1st February, Col Herman Hendrickx, Chief G6, Belgian Defence, admitted the programme was ‘not going that well’ at present. 

‘We did some tests but we are not happy with the stability of the radios so we [have] stopped the programme,' he told the conference.
