West 2018: DoD acknowledges ‘risk imbalance’
In his opening keynote address at West 2018, co-sponsored by AFCEA International and the US Naval Institute, Patrick Shanahan, Deputy Secretary of Defense, acknowledged what he described as ‘a risk imbalance’ within the Department of Defense.
‘My comment about risk imbalance is that every morning I get very detailed intelligence reports,’ he said. ‘And I see the risk that our teams take downrange. It is extraordinary.’
He continued, ‘But then I look at the work we are trying to do on reforms; take costs out and change very straightforward things; make changes that all of you industry did 10 years
