Disruption is the name of the game, says vSOFIC keynote speaker

The virtual incarnation of the annual Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (vSOFIC) began on 11 May with a keynote address on "Innovation and Disruptive Technologies" from technologist and writer Ramez Naam.

He described several examples of disruptive technologies in the world today, ranging from CubeSat miniaturised satellites to drones. In the latter case, he compared the DJI Phantom 4 quadcopter to the MQ-9 Reaper (pictured). While acknowledging that the platform capabilities were significantly different, Naam asserted that  20,000 COTS quadcopters cost the same as a single Reaper.
