Opinion: Make or break time for UK defence
For the British Armed Forces, 2020 began with an abrupt start as the aftermath of the strike by the US military on Iranian Qods Force leader Qasem Soleimani reverberated around the Middle East.
Within days the Royal Navy had been ordered to sea to protect UK merchant shipping, whilst other units were placed on increased readiness in case an evacuation of UK troops was required from Iraq.
This high tempo start indicates that 2020 is likely to be anything but quiet for UK defence, and it is likely to only get more challenging over the coming months.
