US Army Futures Command heads to Texas
The army has announced that the location for the new Army Futures Command (AFC) will be Austin, Texas following extensive examination and visits to cities across the country.
The location was revealed during a Pentagon briefing on 13 July by Army Secretary Mark Esper.
Establishment of the new command reflects Pentagon efforts to better compete and keep pace with Russian and Chinese technological advancements by driving service efforts to modernise equipment.
Characterised as the first major reorganisation of the US Army since the early 1970s, establishment of the new AFC occurs at what Esper called ‘a strategic inflection point', and
