ADECS 2018: Babcock contributes to South Korean submarines

Babcock International has already commenced manufacture of weapons handling and launch equipment in fulfilment of a contract to equip South Korean KSS-III conventional submarines, each of which will displace 3,346t.

Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering awarded the seven-year contract to Babcock, which will run through to 2024. Babcock supplied the same type of equipment for KSS-I and KSS-II submarine programmes for the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN).

The weapon handling launch system has an air turbine pump and programmable firing valve launch system. As such, the equipment is similar to that delivered to the RN’s Astute class and Spain’s S-80
