X2 speed milestone sign of things to come

Sikorsky Aircraft plans to tailor its X2 coaxial rotor design for future light tactical, utility and transport helicopter requirements now that the technology demonstrator's key speed goal has been achieved.

The X2 demonstrator reached a speed of 250 knots true air speed in level flight on 15 September at the Sikorsky Development Flight Center in West Palm Beach, Florida.

Speaking to reporters the following day, programme manager at Sikorsky Advanced Programs, Jim Kagdis, said the 250 knot target had been a key goal of the demonstrator as well as achieving it ‘at low-power workload, low vibration and low noise'.
