Wildcats deploy into the field

The British Army Air Corps has deployed its new AgustaWestland AW159 Wildcat Mk1 helicopter into the field for the first time, paving the way for its entry into operational service.

The deployment, which took place on Salisbury Plain Training Area (SPTA) between 3-7 September, saw the aircraft operating from austere locations and being refuelled from a forward arming and refuelling point (FARP) for the first time.

The evaluation is being conducted by the army’s Wildcat Fielding Team (WFT(A)), who operate the aircraft out of RNAS Yeovilton, Somerset, and was carried out alongside reservists from 6 Regiment Army Air Corps who
