General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems has been awarded two contract modifications from the US Army for 70mm Hydra-70 air-to-ground rocket systems for US and foreign military services, the company announced on 20 July.

The two options are part of a supplies contract that was awarded to General Dynamics in 2014 by the army's contracting command.

The Hydra-70 is an unguided rocket system available in various warhead configurations for specific missions. The rockets can be fired from a number of fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters, including the army's Apache attack helicopter and the US Marine Corps Cobra attack helicopter.

Dan Paul, vice president and general manager for precision systems, General Dynamics Ordnance and Tactical Systems, said: 'General Dynamics has been in continuous production of Hydra-70 rockets since 1996. Our Hydra-70 rockets provide the warfighter with firepower that is versatile, affordable and reliable in multiple combat roles. We look forward to the continuation of our strong partnership with the US military and its allies.'
