The US State Department has approved a possible foreign military sale of the Boeing CH-47F Chinook and associated equipment and support to the Netherlands for an estimated $1.05 billion. The Defense Security Cooperation Agency announced the request on 23 March.

The Netherlands requested a possible sale of 17 CH-47F Chinook cargo helicopters with unique post-modifications, 46 T55-GA-714A turbine engines with hydro-mechanical assembly (34 installed and 12 spares), 41 embedded global positioning system/inertial navigation systems, 54 AN/ARC-231 ultra-high frequency/very high frequency radios, 21 AN/ARC-220 high frequency radios, 21 AN/APX-123A identification friend or foe transponders, and 41 AN/ARC-201D very high frequency radios.

The possible sale also includes spares and repair parts, support equipment, aircraft ferry and refuelling support, tools and test equipment, publications and technical documentation, personnel training and training equipment and US government and contractor logistics and technical support services.

The proposed CH-47F sale will improve the Netherlands' ability to meet future and current requirements for aircraft recovery, troop movement, medical evacuation, disaster relief, search and rescue, parachute drop, heavy construction support and firefighting.

The CH-47Fs will be used by the Netherlands to supplement and eventually replace its ageing fleet of Air Force CH-47 helicopters. Boeing Helicopter Company will be the principle contractor for this potential sale.
