Northrop Grumman, the US Army, Redstone Defense Systems and the prototype integration facility have successfully conducted the critical design review (CDR) of the UH-60V Black Hawk programme, Northrop announced on 15 February.
The review assessed system elements including the open, scalable design using model-based engineering and a fully partitioned software architecture; the technical data package with government purpose rights; navigation system performance; and portability of software applications.
The CDR demonstrates UH-60V design maturity and validates that the system is ready for transition to the fabrication and integration phase.
Under the UH-60V Black Hawk programme, the army's fleet of UH-60L helicopters will receive cockpit upgrades, with older analogue gauges to be replaced with digital electronic instrument displays. Northrop Grumman is responsible for supplying the mission equipment package.
Ike Song, vice president, mission solutions, land and avionics C4ISR division, Northrop Grumman, said: ‘Our highly affordable cockpit solution will give customers greater flexibility than ever before by enabling avionics upgrades with or without the original equipment manufacturer's involvement.
‘Completion of this milestone validates our approach and means that we are one major step closer to fielding advanced capabilities for the warfighter through a truly integrated cockpit solution.’
