Thai army to buy four more Black Hawks

The Royal Thai Army (RTA) will order four more UH-60M Black Hawks from Sikorsky after receiving US congressional approval. This acquisition will enable the RTA to field a complete squadron of 16 Black Hawks.

The RTA’s chief Gen Chalermchai Sitthisart told reporters on 29 June that Gen Prawit Wongsuwan, Thailand’s deputy prime minister and defence minister, had decided to buy the extra Black Hawks.

He said, ‘The programme to acquire Black Hawk helicopters started a long time ago when the army planned to have a squadron of 16 Black Hawks for tactical operations, to transport a company of airborne infantry
