Switching to BrightNite

3rd May 2016 - 14:13 GMT | by Tony Skinner in Haifa

Elbit Systems believes it has made a significant breakthrough in night vision technology, following a series of demonstration flight tests of its BrightNite system in Israel throughout April.

More than 40 pilots from around the world were shown the abilities of the ‘staring’ multi-spectral panoramic system, which enables helicopters to fly in more than 90% of nights, according to the company.

As well as being designed to aid pilots during operations in degraded visual environment (DVE) conditions, BrightNite allows helicopters to fly in moonless, dark nights when there is not enough ambient light for NVGs.
