Russia to design new IFF system

The Russian Ministry of Defence is considering creating a cluster for the development of a single identification, friend or foe (IFF) system for the national army.

According to an official representative of the ministry, the existing IFF systems are no longer able to operate efficiently in complex tactical situations and modern conditions of electronic warfare.

The Russian army has used two IFF systems to date, known as ‘Parol’ and ‘Strazh’. However, it is planned that these will be replaced with a single, unified system with common standards for all combat arms.
