RAF Chinook pilot awarded for bravery in Afghanistan

The Distinguished Flying Cross was awarded to an RAF pilot on 25 November for his performance and services during a difficult flight in Afghanistan a year ago.

Ft Lt Timothy Pollard was awarded the military decoration – one of the RAF’s highest honours – after the Immediate Response Team (IRT) Chinook he was flying in Helmand Province, Southern Afghanistan, came under fire from the enemy during its SAR mission in aid of five wounded casualties.

The medal was awarded in recognition of ‘exemplary gallantry’ during active operations against the enemy in the air.
