Pakistan inaugurates first AW139 squadron

The Pakistan Air Force (PAF) held a ceremony at PAF Base Shahbaz in Jacobabad, Sindh on 3 March to inaugurate the Leonardo AW139 into No. 88 Squadron.

This squadron under the Southern Air Command is responsible for SAR missions, and it was simultaneously renamed as No. 88 Combat Support Squadron and Advanced Helicopter Training School.

As the first AW139 squadron in the air force, it is logical that it also act as a conversion unit for pilots transitioning to the platform.

The squadron previously flew ageing Mi-171 helicopters.
