Night Flight Concepts (NFC), in partnership with Delta P, an aerospace support company, announces the launch of the new Laser Eye Protection Program to help operators improve safety and prevent the risk of eye damage.

The Laser Eye Protection Program (LEPP) is a timely and cutting edge training program to teach aircrew members the capabilities, limitations and preventative measures required to respond to a laser strike.

A steady increase in the number of reported laser light strikes into cockpits has been reported since 2005, with a total of 1,476 reported last year alone. The effects of laser light irradiation on an aircrew can range from mild to severe. Transient visual effects can include loss of situational awareness, to startle or "flash blindness" to stinging and tearing. Longer-term effects can include retinal damage.

The Laser Eye Protection Program addresses the need for information and mitigation techniques most effective in the public safety sector of aviation. Upon completion of the program, students will have a sound understanding of the affects of lasing, as well as methods for mitigating the problem.

The course is conducted by Dr. Dudley Crossen. Dr. Crosson earned his Ph.D. in Diving Physiology in 1986. Dr. Crosson has worked as an independent consultant in a wide range of undersea and aerospace projects, to include NASA.
