NAVAIR calls for industry's help on CH-53K supply issue

The US Naval Air Systems Command (NAVAIR) intends to issue an industry-wide solicitation to address and overcome supply problems associated with thin wall casting of the USMC CH-53K King Stallion's main gear box. 

A team of subject experts and associated stakeholders brought together by the NAVAIR programme office is expected to ‘reach out to industry for their ideas on possible solutions’ before the end of the year, according to a NAVAIR spokesperson.

The casting issue was first made public by way of an Interagency Task Force report published in September, which suggested a clear need to source a new industry supplier
