Germany to send WS-61 Westland Sea King helicopters to Ukraine
Germany has committed to sending Ukraine six of its 21 retiring WS-61 Westland Sea King multirole, amphibious helicopters.
AgustaWestland will supply a second AW139 intermediate twin engine helicopter to the armed forces of Malta, following a decision by the Maltese government to exercise a contract option for the aircraft.
The aircraft will be used for maritime border control missions, and will be delivered in June 2015. The first aircraft ordered under the contract is scheduled for delivery in June 2014.
Malta is currently carrying out plans to strengthen the capabilities of its armed forces, and the new AW139 aircraft will bring the force advanced border control capabilities.
The AW139 is equipped with a maritime patrol and SAR mission equipment packages, including a high-definition FLIR system, search/weather radar, cabin mission console, naval transponder, search light, satellite communication system, a 4-axis autopilot with SAR modes, external rescue hoist and a four bag floatation system.
The AW139 helicopter is part of AgustaWestland’s family of helicopters that includes the AW169 and AW189. The aircraft has been selected by a number of customers worldwide for border patrol and SAR missions.
