Japan’s UH-X achieves maiden flight

A prototype of the UH-X medium multipurpose helicopter, slated to equip the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force (JGSDF), successfully completed its maiden flight in Japan in December.

This flight was preceded by ground tests in November-December, with the prototype bearing serial number 45001 having been spotted undergoing testing at the Subaru Corporation’s Utsonomiya facility located north of Tokyo.

The UH-X was seen hovering during tests on 21 December, although Subaru announced that the first flight lasting 55 minutes occurred on 25 December. A battery of flight tests will continue through till delivery to the JGSDF at the end of March.
