H160 confirmed for French military modernisation

The French Ministry of Defence has given the green light for Airbus Helicopters' H160 to be at the forefront of the military's ambitious helicopter modernisation programme, which will begin in the next decade.

Defence minister Jean-Yves Le Drian announced on 3 March that it was the MoD's intention to use the H160 platform as the replacement for a number of in-service helicopters, including the Alouette III, Dauphin SP and Fennec.

The requirement – known as the Joint Light Helicopter (HIL) – will create a common family of helicopters not required for specialist roles. Helicopters that fall outside the HIL
