Issues surface over UK's Crowsnest programme

6th July 2018 - 18:49 GMT | by Tim Martin in London

The UK's Crowsnest surveillance programme has been hit by a number of industry development challenges, according to an official assessment.

A Ministry of Defence (MoD) assessment published on 4 July has determined that the programme warrants 'constant management attention' in order to meet its delivery schedule.

However, prime contractor Lockheed Martin has stated that it does not believe them to be a cause for concern.

The programme's main objective is to equip ten Leonardo Merlin Mk2 aircraft with a new airborne early warning system, through a £269 million contract awarded to Lockheed Martin and subcontracted to Thales in January 2017.
