The Apache helicopters of the Dutch Air Task Force (ATF) flew their 6,000th flying hour last Friday on behalf of the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).

Under the command of ISAF, the Apaches are used for reconnaissance, escorts and Close Air Support of ground troops and play a crucial role in ISAF.

The Apaches, from 301 Squadron of the Defense Helicopter Command based at Gilze-Rijen Airbase operate five helicopters from Camp Holland at Tarin Kowt in Uruzgan.

They have been operating continuously since 2004 to when ISAF first deployed, first from Kabul International Airport and Kandahar Airfield. Since October 2006 they have been operating from Camp Holland.
