SAR crews from 771 Naval Air Squadron at Royal Naval Air Station Culdrose were kept busy over the weekend following a spate of incidents at sea and on land.

The first call on Saturday was to the cruise ship Braemar, at anchor off the Scillies, to airlift an injured passenger to the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Treliske, in Truro.  Before the helicopter had returned to RNAS Culdrose it was re-tasked to the Penzance area to transfer two casualties from a crashed car to Treliske.  Early afternoon brought another emergency from the cruise ship Braemar, still off the Scillies, this time to fly an elderly passenger suffering chest pains to Treliske.

On Sunday morning the SAR crew were scrambled to attend a serious road traffic collision near Oakhampton.  Four people were trapped in a car, two of them seriously injured, and all four were airlifted to Plymouth airport and taken to Derriford hospital.  Later that afternoon another scramble, this time to the beach near Hayle to assist a young man who had broken his collar bone.  He was then flown to Trelske.

The final call of the weekend was to carry out a search for a missing windsurfer near Plymouth.  On this occasion after a thorough search in cooperation with the Brixham Inshore Lifeboat, Coastguard teams, and other emergency services, nothing was found and the crews were stood down.
