Busy times ahead for Indian Navy test squadron

The Naval Flight Test Squadron (NFTS) of the Indian Navy (IN) celebrated its first anniversary with a seminar on 20 September, and the Goa-based squadron has a busy schedule ahead as new platforms are inducted.

Rotary-winged trials and ship-helicopter integration will keep the squadron busy in the initial years as indigenous shipyards keep rolling out warships every year, many of them with twin hangars.

By setting up the NFTS, the navy asserted its need to develop organic flight testing capabilities. The squadron is designated INAS 552, home to the earlier Sea Harrier training squadron, though the jump jets were phased
