Boeing is to assemble nine more MH-47G Block II Chinook  helicopters for US Army Special Operations Aviation Command (USASOAC), under a $265 million contract.

This deal means that Boeing is under contract for 24 new-generation MH-47Gs, following an earlier contract to build 15.

‘The new Chinooks will give the Army significantly more capability for extremely challenging missions,’ Boeing announced on 31 July.

The MH-47G Block II Chinook features an improved structure and weight-reduction initiatives such as new lighter weight fuel pods that increase performance, efficiency, and commonality across the fleet.

According to Shephard Defence Insight, the MH-47G Block II production run is expected to run until the late 2020s.
