Boeing to build more MH-47G Chinooks
Boeing is to build additional next-generation MH-47G Chinooks for the US Army Special Operations Aviation Command.
This $194 million second lot MH-47G Block II aircraft contract brings the number of Block II aircraft on order with Boeing to 15.
Boeing will deliver six renew-build and one new-build MH-47G under the order. According to the Department of Defense, the order will sustain US Special Operations Forces (SOF) heavy assault, rotary wing aircraft and mitigate the impact of the MH-47G aircraft availability in light of increased SOF operational demands.
The Block II configuration features technological advancements to extend the fleet’s service life and enhance performance.
The first MH-47G Block II aircraft is scheduled to begin final assembly this year. Deliveries will begin in 2021.
