MANPADS threat pushes AMPS development

BIRD Aerosystems has further developed its Airborne Missile Protection System (AMPS) and Aeroshield Pod due to the increased proliferation of MANPADS, the company told Shephard at the Paris Air Show.

BIRD’s Aeroshield Pod configuration has been developed in response to the growing threat of MANPADS to civil and military aircraft. The system uses BIRD’s AMPS to offer a missile protection system that utilises both laser and flare protection technology.

While AMPS has to-date been installed largely on Mi-17 aircraft, BIRD has designed the Aeroshield with VIP platforms, such as commercial aircraft.
