Helitech 2014: BAE Systems targets civil customers for HUD/HMD

BAE Systems has used Helitech International to drum up civil interest in its head-up display (HUD) and helmet-mounted display (HMD) systems.

The company’s HUD and HMD see-through display systems have typically been incorporated onto military aircraft such as the Eurofighter Typhoon, F-16 Fighting Falcon and F-22 Raptor. 

However, recent reductions in the size and weight of the systems – thanks to replacement of analogue CLT screens with digitised DLE displays and the incorporation of new optics – have opened up the potential for civil rotorcraft applications.
