AUSA 2012: US Army deployed GFAS equipped Apaches to Afghanistan

The US Army has deployed a unit of Apaches fitted with the Ground Fire Acquisition System (GFAS) to Afghanistan, it has been revealed.

The 24 AH-64D Block II aircraft, assigned to the 1-101st Aviation Regiment, arrived in theatre two months ago equipped with the system which is designed to detect weapon fire and point the aircraft’s sensors at the source.
