South Korea’s requirement to replace its MD 500 training helicopters for the army and navy is expected to be decided within 30-60 days, sources said at this week’s Seoul ADEX.

Two companies have been down-selected for Korea’s TH-X trainer replacement. Leonardo Helicopters is offering the SW-4 and Bell Helicopter is proposing the 505 Jet Ranger for a requirement of 41 aircraft.

‘We are a risk-free solution with a certified platform [FAA] that matches the RfP requirements,’ a Bell spokesman said. ‘It’s the first military training programme competition for the 505.’

Bell’s 505 is a successor platform to the Jet Ranger
