BAE Systems to produce more LRASM seekers
Additional advanced RF sensors for the AGM-158C Long Range Anti-Ship Missile (LRASM) will be made by BAE Systems for Lockheed Martin under a $60 million low-rate production contract.
The seeker comprises long-range sensors and targeting technology that help the stealthy precision-guided missile find and engage protected maritime targets in challenging electromagnetic environments, BAE Systems noted in an 8 December announcement.
More than 50 LRASM seekers have been produced to date and BAE Systems stated that it is working to make the seeker system smaller, more capable, and more efficient to produce.
LRASM is designed to detect and destroy specific targets within groups of ships by employing advanced technologies that reduce dependence on intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance platforms, network links, and GPS navigation in contested environments.
The 4.27m-long missile weighs 953kg and has a maximum range of 555.6km, according to Shephard Defence Insight.
