French shipbuilder, DCNS, has announced that the first Scorpene submarine built under licence by Mazagon Docks (MDL) will be commissioned in 2015.

Issued in a press release on 3 February, DCNS stated: ‘The hulls of the 6 submarines are completed. The outfitting of these hull sections is now progressing as per schedule. The First of Class P-75 built in MDL should be ready to start harbour tests and sea trials as per schedule indicated by MDL.’

However, the P-75 submarine programme has been subject to delays as the first boat had been due to be commissioned in 2012.
