IDEX 2017: Rheinmetall eyes armed UGV market

German company Rheinmetall is planning to enter into the armed ground robot market with the integration of a remote weapon station (RWS) for its new multi-mission ground vehicle, which was unveiled at this year's IDEX in Abu Dhabi.

Being displayed as an unarmed tactical surveillance platform at the exhibition, Rheinmetall Canada – the division leading the development of the UGV – said integration trials of a 250kg small-calibre RWS will likely take place in the coming year.
