Euronaval: Insitu unveils ScanEagle 2 (video)

Insitu used the Euronaval exhibition in Paris to release details of its planned upgrade to the ScanEagle UAV, which features a new engine for increased power, reliability and payload options.

Ryan Hartman, Insitu’s president and CEO said the company has developed the ScanEagle 2 with one eye on the commercial market, and noted that the focus had therefore been on increasing the reliability and affordability of the system.

Speaking to Shephard Media at Euronaval, Hartman said the company had tasked Australian company Orbital to develop a purpose-built heavy-fuel engine for the UAV – which it describes as the first reciprocating
