Chinese shipbuilder launches ‘combat-ready’ JARI USV

The No. 716 Research Institute of the China Shipbuilding Industry Corporation (CSIC) launched a long-awaited USV on 21 August, according to an announcement on the agency’s official WeChat account. At that time, it was also declared to be ‘combat ready’.

This particular design, called the JARI USV Multipurpose Unmanned Combat Boat when previously marketed at overseas exhibitions, was jointly developed by the No. 716 and No. 702 Research Institutes of the CSIC.

The name ‘JARI’ stands for the Jiangsu Automation Research Institute. However, the location where the launch ceremony occurred was not disclosed.
