Apache and Gray Eagle team up in Korea

The US Army is able to conduct aerial manned-unmanned teaming missions in South Korea, according to an announcement from General Atomics on 18 November.

In an August exercise, a General Atomics MQ-1C Gray Eagle MALE platform worked in tandem with a Boeing AH-64D Apache attack helicopter from Kunsan Air Base on the peninsula.

The UAV streamed video and metadata to the Apache via a data link. The Apache retransmitted this imagery to a One System Remote Video Terminal, allowing ground forces to view the video too. This was the first time such a teaming arrangement occured in South Korea.
