Madison, Mississippi-based Vertex Aerospace LLC, part of the American Industrial Partners group of companies, has been awarded a $77.25 million firm-fixed-price contract for contractor operated and maintained base supply of the Air Education and Training Command (AETC) fleet of 178 T-1A Jayhawk trainer aircraft.

The contract was awarded by the US Air Force Life Cycle Management Center at Tinker AFB, Oklahoma. According to the USAF, three bids were received.

The first phase of the programme runs until 30 November 2020 and is funded at nearly $15.79 million.

The T-1A Jayhawk is a medium-range, twin-engine jet trainer used in the advanced phase of specialised undergraduate pilot training for students selected to fly airlift or tanker aircraft.

The aircraft is also used to support navigator training for the US Air Force, navy, marine corps and international customers.

Support work will be conducted at the aircraft’s main operating bases: at Randolph AFB, Texas; Laughlin AFB, Texas; Vance AFB, Oklahoma; Columbus AFB, Mississippi, and Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida.
