Cubic Global Defense has announced that it is to deliver its P5 Combat Training System (CTS) to an international Eurofighter Typhoon customer.

The contract was awarded by BAE Systems and includes the airborne pods, ground sub-systems and logistics support.

Shephard understands that the customer is Qatar and the P5s are being used to support the 24 aircraft that it has on order.

The P5 CTS provides combat aircraft with a live training capability through recording the live air picture, recording mission data, assessing weapon engagements and relaying time, space and positioning information – or TSPI – between aircraft.

P5 CTS is the US Air Force and US Navy’s respective ‘program of record’ for Autonomous Air Combat Manoeuvring Instrumentation (AACMI) systems and it has also been exported to numerous customers throughout the world.

The system is also embedded within the F-35 and this is leading to its increasing share of the global AACMI market at the expense of alternative AACMI products.

Speaking about the deal, Jonas Furukrona VP and general manager of air training solutions at Cubic Global Defense said: ‘Cubic and our partner Leonardo DRS are working closely with international aircraft manufacturers like BAE Systems to integrate and deliver P5 CTC and this order further sustains P5 CTS viability through the Typhoon life cycle.’

The P5 CTS is expected to be supported by the US Air Force through 2030 when it will be replaced by SLATE.
