SOF stresses lifecycle affordability for new low-cost UAS platform

SOF planners in the US are exploring the possibilities of supplementing the current fleet of UAS with a commercial platform that may offer lower lifecycle costs.

A glimpse of the new platform was provided this week at the virtual Special Operations Forces Industry Conference by Col Melissa Johnson, Program Executive Officer for Fixed Wing at United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM).

Outlining the priorities for her organisation, Johnson included the need to ‘improve overall adaptability and affordability throughout the system lifecycle’.
