First batch of 10,000-strong EU coast guard to begin training
With the first batch of recruits beginning training for the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, a clearer picture is beginning to emerge of the eventual size and expected equipment of the service that will patrol Europe’s land and maritime borders.
According to the Agency, also known as Frontex, the first 265 recruited officers will start a six-month training in the coming weeks. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, a large number of interviews with potential candidates have had to be shifted online with around a third of those eligible having gone through the process thus far.
