Argentina awaits enhanced OPV87 vessel
ARA Piedrabuena, the second of four new OPVs for the Argentine Navy, was launched in early October from the Concarneau facility of French shipbuilder Kership (a JV between Naval Group and Piriou).
A spokesperson from Naval Group told Shephard that this is ‘two months ahead of the contractual deadline’ and was achieved ‘despite the adverse sanitary context’ of COVID-19.
‘The ship will be delivered in Concarneau mid-April 2021 to the Argentinian navy,’ the spokesperson added.
The first OPV for Argentina was built by Naval Group to its Gowind OPV design in 2011, initially serving in the French Navy
