Navfix naval GPS system completes Royal Navy IOC
The Navfix military GPS System developed by Drumgrange has completed Initial Operating Capability (IOC) with the Royal Navy, clearing the way for the system to be installed across selected surface vessels and submarines in the force’s fleet.
The naval GPS system successfully completed its Naval Weapons Sea Test (NWST) on a Royal Navy vessel in late June. The trial was conducted by a team of personnel from the Royal Navy, Defence Equipment and Support (DE&S), the Maritime Commissioning and Test Authority (MCTA) and Drumgrange.
Navfix will replace legacy GPS receivers on Royal Navy vessels as the primary naval GPS system under a contract awarded by the DE&S Communications and Situational Awareness (CSA) team in November 2012. In addition to developing, manufacturing and installing the system, Drumgrange will also provide through-life support for the system.
The new system incorporates the latest Selective Availability Anti-Spoofing Module military GPS receiver technology and interfaces to the platforms’ existing navigation and combat systems. It also includes additional network interfaces for integration to emerging open architecture combat and platform management systems.
