IDEX 2021: Kornet-E set for assembly in Jordan
Jadara Equipment and Defence Systems expands its activities in anti-tank weaponry.
Egyptian Navy corvettes will be armed with the VL MICA New Generation (NG) air defence system, manufacturer MBDA announced during the IDEX 2021 defence exhibition in Abu Dhabi on 21-25 February.
Officially launched in October 2020, VL MICA NG integrates the new-generation MICA missile into the existing VL MICA point and close-area air defence system.
The four El Fateh-class corvettes built by Naval Group in France for the Egyptian Navy are already equipped with MICA VL systems.
According to MBDA, VL MICA NG offers improved capabilities to handle ‘atypical targets’ such as UAVs and small aircraft, as well as future threats characterised by increasingly low-observable IR and RF signatures.
‘Additionally, VL MICA NG will be able to intercept ‘conventional’ targets (aircraft, helicopters, cruise missiles and anti-ship missiles) at longer distances,’ the company added.
