Navantia picks propeller provider for F110 programme
Kongsberg Maritime announced on 18 November that it has been selected by Navantia to provide propeller systems for the five F110 frigates that are under construction for the Spanish Navy.
The deal is worth NOK200 million ($22.22 million) with an undisclosed completion date, although Shephard Defence Insight forecasts that the first-in-class vessel (the future Bonifaz) will be launched in 2024-25 and the final frigate (Barceló) will follow in 2030-2031.
Kongsberg Maritime will apply its knowledge of hydrodynamics and advanced designs from its Kongsberg Maritime Research Centre (KHRC) in Kristinehamn, Sweden.
Navantia was awarded a $4.9 billion contract in December 2018 to build the F110 class, which is intended to furnish the Spanish Navy with new ASW capabilities to replace the six Santa Maria-class frigates and operate alongside the Alvaro de Bazan-class frigates.
