India stands up first P-8I squadron
The Indian Navy (IN) stood up its first P-8I squadron in a ceremony in southern India on 13 November.
In attendance, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar commented that the Boeing P-8I had already ‘achieved a number of operational milestones’. In particular he mentioned search efforts for Malaysian Airlines Flight MH370, the firing of an air-launched AGM-84L Harpoon Block II missile, and the dropping of Mk 54 torpedoes.
According to an IN press release, the defence minister said the P-8I aircraft would provide the Indian Navy the necessary reach and flexibility to undertake extensive surveillance, and also to respond to contingencies
