Euronaval 2018: Leonardo continues progress with weapon systems
Italy’s Leonardo presented numerous weapon system updates at this year’s Euronaval including on its Black Scorpion lightweight torpedo which is set for helicopter qualification in the near future.
The 5” torpedo is designed as an expandable solution which can be launched from surface vessels, helicopters and unmanned vessels.
At this time there are two prototypes in existence, Marco Melani, development manager for underwater systems told Shephard.
Testing is ongoing but Melani could not specify when it would be completed as they are still in discussions with potential customers.
